For the past few years since I bought my house I have been covering it in murals. Why have white washed walls when you can have a landscape, a stag under an old oak or ivy climbing up a balustrade? It might not be to everyone’s taste, but especially for those of you who have children, they are guaranteed to love them.
After Studying oil painting in Italy for three years it gave me the confidence to not merely copy from photos- although these are definitely used in the process, but to paint with composition in mind. Being aware of space, tone and arrangement helped me to be bold when painting and helped me to plan more for the final image. I had always painted and enjoyed the process but painting murals can be a wonderful relief, to paint what gives delight to the client rather than a fine art approach which can be self centred and narcissistic. Although art always reflects the artist in some way, it should not always be its primary purpose.
Would you love a living room with some ivy climbing the wall that will never cause damage to your brickwork? Could your bathroom do with a nautical theme so your mind can be taken off the stresses of the world? Do you have a tiny awkward space in your house that could do with some character? This is where I come in….
Lucy Crabtree has just painted a beautiful mural on my wall which is stunning I love it and thanks to St Albans Mums for finding her for me thank you xx -Tina from St Albans
